Gleyber Torres Slumps But Yankees Secure Victory

Yankee's Shortstop Continues to Struggle

A Glimmer of Hope in the 9th Inning

After a 4-for-4 outing against the Chicago White Sox, fans were expecting another impressive performance from Gleyber Torres. However, against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates, Torres went 0-for-4, striking out twice and grounding into a double play.

Torres, an All-Star in 2018 and 2019, has been in a slump for most of the 2023 season, hitting just .245 with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs in 65 games.

Despite Torres' struggles, the Yankees managed to pull out a 4-3 victory over the Pirates, thanks to a two-run, walk-off home run by Aaron Judge in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Judge's Heroics Save the Day

Judge's home run was his 20th of the season, and it came off Pirates reliever Wil Crowe. The Yankees had loaded the bases with one out in the inning, and Judge took advantage of the opportunity to give the Yankees their second walk-off win of the season.

"It was a great feeling to come through for my team in that situation," Judge said after the game. "We needed a win tonight, and I was just glad I could deliver."

The Yankees are now 37-28 on the season, and they are in first place in the American League East.

What's Next for Torres?

Torres' struggles are a concern for the Yankees, but they are hoping that he can turn things around soon.

"We know Gleyber is a good player," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. "He's just going through a tough stretch right now. We're confident that he'll figure it out and start hitting again soon."

The Yankees will face the Pirates again on Wednesday night, and Torres will be looking to break out of his slump.
